When is a good time to recognize your employees? Answer: Anytime they do exactly what your mission statement says you hold as important values.
As you are looking for ways to make positive changes to your business this coming year, be sure to schedule regular recognition events for your employees. Plan to have plenty of spontaneous recognition times as well.
It is a good idea to have some thank you cards readily available for writing personal notes of appreciation for the little things your employees do that show they care about your business image, product or service. A little note of thanks can go a long way in lifting someones spirit and their level of performance.
Have some small gifts or business identity items easily available for recognizing the things that show you see when they go above and beyond their job duties or show superior service to a customer. If you keep these small gifts available you can instantly give them out. That will have a better impact on your employees and their coworkers. The more time that elapses between the good work and the recognition, the less impact the recognition item will have on reinforcing the good behavior.
Remember those special anniversaries, 90 days, 1 year, 5 year and so on. Recognize them with increasing levels of value as the length of time of service continues. If you recognize their loyalty with a special plaque or other item of value, they will feel appreciated for their loyalty. Employees who feel unappreciated, may be easily tempted to go to your competition if they come calling on them. You’ve gone to the expense and time to do the training, don’t let the competition benefit from your hard work only because you were too busy to let your people know how much you appreciate them!
When they have worked together as a team or individually accomplished something remarkable, be sure to have a celebratory event held in their honor. Include everyone in the company so that all can congratulate on the job well done and see for themselves the apprciation they will recieve when they too excel.
Be sure to make every recognition feel like a heartfelt expression of gratitude. Keep it fun, make it memorable, and focused on the positive things happening in your business. Your employees are a vital part of your business, you can’t do much without them. Be sure to let them know you are glad they work for you!
